Quickly Search Google Docs from the Chrome Address Bar

24 Nov 2009

Quite often I have to search through Google Docs for a how-to I have created for my own reference or a document that I am collaborating on with colleagues. I found it silly to have to go to docs.google.com, and then search, as two separate steps, so I create a useful little search command in Chrome. Here’s how to do it.

Right click the address bar. Click Edit Search Engines

Right click chrome address bar[/caption]

Use the keyword d and URL: https://docs.google.com/#search/%s

Create a search shortcut for Google Docs[/caption]

Entering d unix in the address bar and hitting enter will now drop you directly into a search on Google Docs for “unix.”
