How does the value of a private compliment compare to the value of a public hat tip? (vid)

I have been thinking about ways I can make fewer mistakes by encouraging negative reinforcement for stupid behavior, and also begun thinking about what are the most valuable/effective ways to encourage awesome behavior in those around me. Here is a vid I threw down on the subject:
